What you will experience
There's a reason drumming circles are used in therapy, team building, and wellness retreats around the world. The rhythm does something to you. It gets into your chest and changes how you feel. Now imagine learning that rhythm from someone who grew up with it. This is a hands on djembe drumming session where I teach you how to play from scratch. You'll learn the three basic tones, how to hold the drum, how to follow a rhythm, and how to play together as a group. By the end of the session you'll be playing actual African rhythms and you won't believe how quickly you picked it up. Along the way I'll tell you about the djembe itself. Where it comes from, what it was originally used for, how different rhythms communicate different things, and why in many African cultures the drum is considered a living thing with a voice of its own. No musical experience needed. No rhythm needed. Honestly the people who think they have no rhythm are usually the ones who enjoy it most because they surprise themselves. We finish the session with everyone playing together and the sound is something you have to experience to understand. It fills the room in a way that recordings never capture. Come curious. Leave with a new skill and a smile you can't explain.
