What you will experience

Saturday morning. A pitch. Two teams picked on the spot. Afrobeats from a speaker on the sideline. And jollof rice waiting at full time for whoever shows up. That's it. That's the plan. And it's the best plan you'll have this weekend. I coach under-16s during the week so I know how to organise a game. Teams are balanced. Everyone plays. Whether you're the guy who thinks he's Salah or the person who hasn't kicked a ball since school, you're getting minutes. The level doesn't matter. The energy does. The speaker stays on the whole time. Afrobeats and Amapiano soundtrack the entire session. It changes how you play. You move different when the music's right. Celebrations are louder. Tackles are dramatic. Someone scores a worldie and the reaction sounds like a stadium even though there's eleven of us on each side. After the game we eat. I bring jollof, chicken, and cold drinks. We sit pitchside, sweaty and buzzing, and talk about every goal, every miss, every moment of individual brilliance and every moment of individual disgrace. The post-match analysis is more heated than the game itself. This becomes your Saturday thing. People come back every week. Not for the football. For the people. For the energy. For the one morning a week where you're not at a desk or on your phone or being an adult. You're just playing football with good music and eating rice afterwards. This is for anyone who misses playing. For people who want to be active without the gym. For people who want to meet others through sport. For anyone who thinks Saturday mornings are wasted on sleep when they could be spent like this. Bring boots. Bring water. Leave your ego.
