African Storytelling for Kids and Families

What you will experience

Children today are growing up on YouTube and Netflix and that's fine. But there's a kind of storytelling that a screen can never replicate. The kind where someone sits in front of you, looks you in the eye, and takes you somewhere with just their voice. This experience is for children and their parents. I'll tell traditional African folktales the way they've been told for generations. Stories about why the tortoise has a cracked shell. How the spider outsmarted the king. Why the moon and the sun don't share the sky. Each story has a lesson woven into it so gently that children absorb it without even realising they're learning. The session is interactive. There are call and response moments where the kids join in. There are sound effects they make together. There are questions I'll ask that let their imaginations run wild. Some stories are funny and some are a little bit scary in the way that makes children grip their parent's arm and then giggle two seconds later. Afterwards there's a small African snack. Puff puff, chin chin, or biscuits. Something sweet to end on. This is for African parents who want their children to hear the stories they heard growing up. It's also for non African families who want their children to experience storytelling from a different culture. And honestly it's for the parents too because most of them will be just as captivated as the kids. Bring your little ones. Let them hear something they won't forget.
